What?
The mission of the Sockeyes Cancer Foundation is to raise awareness and generate funds for the advancement in research of cancer pertaining to men’s health; particularly prostate cancer and lymphoma
Prostate cancer is the second leading cause of death of men in the United States. One out of five men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer. Statistically three out of the fifteen skaters on our charity team will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in our lifetime. Sadly, many cases of prostate cancer and complications go unreported. The Sockeyes Cancer Foundation provides information, raises awareness and funds research of a disease that claims the lives of unsuspecting men every year.
How is hockey involved?
Sockeyes Cancer Foundation formed when a group of recreational hockey players from the Greater Seattle Hockey League Sockeyes team decided to play in a charity hockey tournament in Denver, Colorado which benefits NHL's Hockey Fights Cancer Foundation. We had such a blast and all agreed that we wanted to start our own charity foundation and the rest is history!
